The story of the “Republic” begins in 1872, when Fritz Hansen started off with a trade licence in Kopenhagen, Denmark. Eight years later, he set up his own furniture factory. From the very beginning, the company aimed to manufacture quality products. This focus on quality has not changed since and the Republic of Fritz Hansen – yes, that’s the company’s full name – has developed many classics. Products range from the famous chairs to sofas, tables, and even lamps. Renowned architects such as Piet Hein, Bruno Mathsson, Arne Jacobsen, Kasper Salto, Jaime Hayon, Pierro Lissoni, Poul Kjaerholm and many more have designed pieces for Fritz Hansen. Copied often, the products of the Republic have yet remained unsurpassed and it is difficult to imagine today’s world of design – and our Wohnidee store in Lucerne – without this iconic brand.
